“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Okay I know what you’re thinking. This topic right here, I’ve come across it a gazillion times.
It’ll probably start off with some appetising tips on working on yourself and mindset, followed by a hearty few nuggets of wisdom from inspiring thought leaders, and finally guzzled down with a couple of glasses of sparkling if-they-can-do-it-YOU-can-too mantras.
And BAM! I’m supposed to have developed magical world-changing powers.
If this was the case then people like me, would not be writing articles like this for awesome folk like you. I mean let’s ponder on this for a second or two. Just imagine a world that’s perfect. Nothing to improve on, or tweak or invent. What would you spend all your 86,400 seconds in a day doing?
Sounds scary right? And if you’re anything like me, you’re now quietly thanking the world for that little bit of imperfection that gives life so much meaning. For the tiny bit of hope that allows you to dream of a better world.
The secret to changing the world lies in our ability to envision pastures of prancing kittens, when in reality all we see are stray cats, with half-chewed ears, limping along in grey and worn down alleyways.
And now that the cat’s out of the bag, yes I’m fully aware that I’m quickly starting to sound like a crazy cat lady, try and describe what an ideal world looks like to you? And remember no limitations, we’re in the world of imagination, so let your mind run freely. And once this image is clear, in high definition in fact, TRY to reach out for it.
(Hope you noted the emphasis on the try because so many don’t even make it this far)
This could be done through a simple intention. A smile. A whisper. And in that moment of reaching, you may grasp at something completely magical.
Will it be exactly as you had envisioned? Not always, but the world will definitely be better for it.
And if all that stuff still went right over your head, as it does with the best of us at times, here’s the short version…
Dream it. Reach for it. Change the world!
